Long delays in US Passport issuance and renewals

After three years a lot of Americans are preparing to travel overseas as COVID restrictions have been removed by most countries.  This has caused a backlog in processing new applications and renewals.

Currently it takes almost 13 weeks to process an application (plus mailing time).  Allow about 4 months time if you plan on filing an application.  Please check your passport for expiration dates.  Note that most countries require at least 6 months cushion to allow travel.  The passport expiry date must be more than 6 months to be allowed into a country.
