One of the main objectives of Indian citizens studying or working (under work visas like H1-B) is to secure a green card further evolving into a pathway to US citizenship. Children of these individuals/families study here and look forward to making America their new home.

Long delays in securing green cards have impacted many such individuals/families. Many have returned to India while others seek greener pastures in Canada and Australia. Various reports indicate that talent migration back to India or Canada will negatively impact America’s leadership position in tech innovation. Recent news reports indicate that America needs talent to combat China’s emergence.

Forward movement in EB1, EB2 and EB3 visa cutoff dates

Presidential contender Trump announces Green Card for all foreign graduates
Donald Trump proposed “automatically” giving green cards to foreign nationals who graduate from a US college. The objective here appears to be to boost the American economy. This is a complete turn around from Donald Trump’s position as President just a few years ago.

Good times ahead?
It is too soon to predict the future. However, data shows that support from the Indian community in battleground states like Michigan may help elect the next President. Let us hope that decades of wait time for legal and highly qualified talent from India will be a thing of the past. America needs talent and India can fill that gap.
