India Independence Day Celebrations 2023

India celebrates its 76th Independence Day on August 15th 2023. August 15th is a special day for all Indians. Home to one of the oldest civilizations, India secured independence on August 15, 1947 after over 200 years of British rule.  Grand celebrations take place at India’s capital city of New Delhi with a parade.  Typically, several world leaders and dignitaries are invited to the event. Indian diaspora celebrates at several cities in North America.   

Thousands of Michigan Indian community members will also celebrate the holiday here. Thousands will be gathering at the annual India Day celebrations in Novi on Saturday August 15th to enjoy entertainment, food and shopping.  

With over 1.4 billion people India is #1 in population this year in addition to functioning as the world’s largest democracy.  Millions of Indian Americans are particularly proud of the shared democratic values between India and America.
