Visitor and student visa updates from the US Embassy in India

B1-B2 Visitors visas will be issued starting September 2022. The issuance of such visas was paused due to COVID-19.  Currently, only previously issued valid visa holders can visit America.  The US Embassy official has stated that the visa volume will be at only 2/3rd (approximately 66%) of pre pandemic levels.  They expect to achieve 100% level only in 2023. Parents and other visitors can start securing their visas (or renew their expired visas) starting September 2022.

US embassy in India announced changes to the student visa application process effective Summer 2022.  The embassy hopes to issue more visas this year. Last year 62,000 visas were issued. If students do not secure a visa in the Spring-Summer of 2022,  then they cannot reapply again this year.  This will provide opportunities for deserving students as available slots will not be used up by such reapplications.
